A neurodevelopmental and communication disorder that is present at birth and affects a child's ability to learn, understand and formulate both spoken and written language. While the exact causes of DLD are unknown, it is not linked to socio-economic or environmental factors, such as a lack of exposure to language, or medical conditions like hearing impairments, intellectual disabilities or autism spectrum disorder.
