Description:

The Healthy Start Coalition of Flagler and Volusia Counties is a non-profit organization, which unites people and resources at the local level in order to meet the needs of pregnant women, infants, young children and their families. The Healthy Start Coalition of Flagler and Volusia Counties is one of 32 coalitions across Florida that was formed by legislative authority. This landmark legislation sought to ensure that all babies born in Florida are given the opportunity to have a healthy start in life. The primary objectives of the Health Start initiative are to reduce infant mortality and morbidity, to improve pregnancy outcomes, and to enhance the health and development of children birth to age three. The key components of the statue mandate:
-Universal screening of pregnant women and newborn infants to identify those at risk of poor birth, health and developmental outcomes;
-Increased access to comprehensive, risk-appropriate maternity and well-child care support services;
-State-wide implementation of community-based coordination systems;
-Expansion of Medicaid funding and expanded eligibility for pregnant women.

The mission of the Healthy Start Coalition of Flagler and Volusia Counties is to promote a system of care that optimizes/maximizes healthy outcomes for pregnant women and young children.
