The American Kidney Fund fights kidney disease through direct financial support to patients in need, health education and prevention efforts. It leads the nation in charitable assistance to dialysis patients. In 2011, nearly 90,000 peoplealmost 1 out of every 4 U.S. dialysis patientsreceived assistance from the American Kidney Fund for health insurance premiums and other treatment-related expenses. Grants are available for: medication, transportation, emergency transient dialysis, special diet needs, etc. Applications available from nephrologist or renal social worker. AKF also provides bilingual (Spanish) literature, supports education and donor program, and grants a nephrology fellowship. Call or write for more information.
